High-temperature mechanical behavior and deformation mechanism of Ti-47Al-2W-0.5Si creep-resistant alloy

摘要High-temperature mechanical behavior and deformation mechanism of Ti-47Al-2W-0.5Si cast alloy have been investigated. The results show that, the TiAl base intermetallic exhibits improved mechanical properties over the conventional IN713LC superalloy on density-corrected yield strength from RT to high temperature, and density-corrected creep strength at 650 degreesC. Its minimum creep rate increases with increasing of applied stress and creep temperature, and can be expressed by the creep formula <()over dot>(m)=A((sigma)/(E))(10)exp(-(420)/(RT)). Decrease of the initial creep rate is attributed to piling up and tangling of dislocations emanated from the alpha (2)/gamma interfaces. Deformation twinning is suggested to be a result of a stress-relief process due to the inhibition of dislocations during deformation. It was found that deformation twins and shear bands can form in the primary creep stage. Evolution of microstructures, including coarsening and phase transformation of alpha (2) laths, was also observed. Besides, industrial application and development of the alloy are involved.
